When you read the articles, you realize Harold Dow, unlike so many people who go on to be successful, never forgot where he came from and how important that was to him.

The article mentions he was still a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Hackensack, and the funeral arrangements, even though he had lived in Upper Saddle River for 28 years, were being done by Earl I. Jones on First Street in Hackensack.

I spoke to him once, I did not know him well at all, but from my conversation with him about our web site and when I mentioned helping, in connection to a Hackensack High School scholarship fund, he was more than willing.

We actually spoke for quite awhile, since we had wrestling at Hackensack in common, and he could not have been more pleasant to talk to.

I always wondered what his relationship, if any, was with E. Frederic Morrow, who had also worked at CBS right around the timeHarold Dow was working there.

Harold Dow sets a high bar for Hackensack students to strive for in the field of Journalism, but then again, that is why he always remembered home, he knew his example matters, just like those that influenced him.
